My work tracks the natural world through shifting light, passing weather, and fleeting forms, using patience, observation, and modern digital technology to reveal moments when the living landscape briefly comes into focus.

My photography is shaped by a lifelong relationship with visual technology and by a sustained fascination with the natural world. My background in computer visualization, animation software, and GIS at Colorado State University continues to influence how I see: through structure, pattern, light, and the quiet precision of the image.

My current work centers on landscapes, wildlife and birds, with particular attention to the fleeting conditions that transform a scene: weather, atmosphere, clouds, light, movement, and living creatures. I strive to make the strongest possible image in the camera, using digital post-processing only to refine what was already present at the moment of capture.

I take most (but not all) of my pictures in the southern Kootenay region of British Columbia. I consider myself lucky to live here. I believe it’s one of the most beautiful places on earth, with a fascinating variety of scenery, animals and birds.

 The prints shown at Cowan’s are the results of a long process of looking, waiting, selecting, and refining. From thousands of field images, only a few are carried forward; from those, perhaps one becomes a finished print. The works presented are drawn from that slow process of attention, shaped by the encounter between observation, technology, and the living landscape. I do not use generative AI for any images.
